Meet Monty KeelingCStation StationmasterThe Communication Station is my idea. Nobody bribed me or got me drunk. I've been pondering an online service for a number of years before contacting New Paris Telephone about the possibility of setting up CStation on thier internet provider. From my background as a Church of the Brethren preacher and a newspaper reporter - editor, it just seemed the natural thing to do. (By the way, while I am open to bribes I don't drink.) The World Wide Web provides fertilized soil for a new kind of communication medium. (And yes, there is a lot of manure out there.) One that can command the mass power and technology of television, radio, and newspaper, while also providing the personal touch of a letter, phone call, or neighborly evening visit. The reporter in me gets excited about the information capabliities, while my pastoral side sees opportunity to make people's lives better through interactive communication. Let me be perfectly clear from the start, we're here as a money making business. I've had enough expensive hobbies in my life already. But we're not about profit. CStation wants to make life better for our community and the people who live with us. You have to expect missionary zeal from a preacher right? And I should probably add that's why New Paris Telephone has helped me get started. They believe an online service like CStation can be a valuable community asset. New Paris Telephone has no ownership stake in CStation Cstation actually is two web online services in one. The local online service will serve mainly our area while Christian Leadership hopes to resource an international group of Christian lay and pastoral congregational leaders. Before I was a Brethren preacher I was the son of a Church of the Brethren preacher. Like my father ministry has been my second career. Our families origins' are in the midwest around Kansas City, MO., and Peoria, IL.. Chris and I met and married while living in Bakersfield, CA. We've been on the move since then to Chicago, IL., Lancaster, PA., Rocky Ford, CO., and, since August 1989, the Goshen area. Preachers, like reporters, move around a lot.. As a Chicago White Sox fan I know what it's like to struggle. I also like Country Music, Saturday morning cartoons, and people and businesses that tell the truth. While living in California I was part-owner publisher of a weekly controlled circulation newspaper, The Tehachapi Summit Sun, and majority owner-publisher of two speical interest tabloids The Kern Sport Tab and The Kern Business Tab. Before that I was sports editor of a small weekly 45 miles east of Los Angeles and Public Relations Director of the Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce. Our nuclear family includes recent Goshen College nursing school graduate wife Chris, oldest daughter Christel who's studying nursing in Florida where husband Mark works for a computer company, Goshen High School senior Erica, and son Super Nintendo Nathan. |
