Do conservatives think? The answer is no. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t buy into the liberal propaganda that conservatives are stupid. They are not. I know that because my beloved son-in-law is a college graduate-real Indiana- conservative. And there is no more conservative creature on earth than a die hard northern Indiana Republican.

These people are by no means low on the intelligence scale. They just don’t like to change their minds. You see a real conservative either doesn’t want to change things, or wants to roll back things to the way they imagine things used to be in the good old days and keep them there. Most of all they don’t like spending money, don’t like big government, and think Uncle Sam needs to keep his nose out of their business.

These days when I try to talk to my son-in-law about what’s going on in Republican controlled Washington D.C.., he either says he hasn’t been keeping up on the news, or he no longer wants to be considered the same kind of conservative as those guys running the country.

The father of my two beautiful grandboys problem is that he can’t help thinking or watching the news. From reading news I know he’s not the only real conservative who’s stomach hurts so much they are looking for some other political term to identify himself. As a result the Republicans are in danger of losing their conservatives, just the Democrats lost their moderate support.

Yes they will still vote for Republicans, but only because they are running against Democrats. Because that’s what conservatives do. They will stay loyal to what they’ve believed in before. Even if what they believed in isn’t the same anymore. And they will continue to do that until another alternative (read political party) comes along and convinces them that party is the real conservative deal.

Until then they will keep voting Republican and their stomachs will continue to hurt.
